5 Fun Ways to Keep Kids Entertained on a Rainy Day

Just because it’s a rainy day doesn’t mean it has to be a dreary one. When the weather prevents kids from being able to go outside and play, there are still ways to have a fun day inside. Next time the weather has your family cooped up inside, try these fun tricks to keep kids busy and happy while enjoying some good old fashioned family fun.

Have a Scavenger Hunt

Kids love scavenger hunts, and putting one together can be fun for mom and dad too. Have the kids stay in one room of the house while you hide different small items around the house, then provide them with a list of the items you have hidden and send them scurrying around the house searching for them. The child who finds the most items on the list is the winner.

Camp Indoors

Drape sheets or blankets over furniture to make a “tent”. Set the tent up for comfort with sleeping bags or by making a pallet with blankets and pillows. Bring a flashlight into the tent and take turns telling campfire stories and serve an indoor picnic.
Make Your Own Family Board Game

Get creative by making your own family board game to play. Each family member can contribute to the game. You can brainstorm together to come up with the concept, back story, rules, pieces, etc. and then work together to bring the game to life. Once the game is made, you can enjoy playing it together for many years to come.

Spend the Day Baking Together

Baking with your children is a fun way to spend quality time together. Spend the day baking goodies such as cookies, muffins, fudge, etc. and then wrap them up or place them in tins and let the kids hand them out to friends and family as a special gift.

Make a Movie

Encourage your kids to spend the day filming a movie. You can help them write the script, make the props and costumes, and by manning the camera for them when they are ready to begin filming. You can send the movie to family and friends for their viewing pleasure and it will also give you a great keepsake to treasure always.
